Gym and Studio Cleaning, Starting With the Grips

Cleaning for gyms and studios, covering the equipment touch points members actually grip, rubber and vinyl floors cleaned with something that will not dry them out, locker rooms, showers and odor handled at the source.

Members judge a gym by what their hands touch. Grips, dumbbell handles, cable attachments, bench pads, the rails on a treadmill, the console and the screen. Those come first on every visit and they get wiped properly, not passed over with a dry cloth on the way to the door. Mirrors come next, cleaned to the edge and left without a streak at the height where people stop to check their form, because that is the one flaw the whole room can see at once. Then the floor, which is where gyms most often get damaged by their own cleaners. Rubber and vinyl do not want a degreaser or a solvent. Those pull the plasticizer out, dry the surface, and take a black floor to gray and chalky inside a year, at which point it is a replacement bill rather than a cleaning problem. Ours runs on a neutral cleaner and controlled water, worked in the direction the tiles were laid.

Locker rooms are a smell problem before they are a cleaning problem, and smell does not answer to fragrance. It comes from the drain, the grout, the underside of the bench, the mats and the bin nobody washes out. So the source gets taken: showers and tile joints scrubbed, curtains or doors done, drains cleared and flushed, benches wiped top and underneath, lockers inside and out where the scope allows, trash pulled and the bins themselves washed instead of relined. Do that on a schedule and the room stops needing anything sprayed into the air. Timing depends on how you operate. A studio with a class timetable gets the gap between the last class and the doors being locked. A twenty four hour access site never truly closes, so we take the deadest stretch, usually the run from one until five, and work zone by zone so no area is ever fully out of use. Studio walls take constant contact, and repainting them overnight keeps the room open the next morning.

Before

Four things we hear before we start

These four come up in nearly every walkthrough we do of gyms and studios. If any of them sound like your building, they belong in the scope.

The handles and grips look clean and feel tacky, which is the first thing a member notices.

Somebody has been mopping the rubber flooring with a degreaser and the black is going gray.

The locker room smells like an air freshener losing a fight it was never going to win.

Mirrors are streaked at exactly the height where everybody stops to check their form.
