Dracut Two Families and the Work They Need
We work Collinsville and the Navy Yard down by the Lowell line, the houses along Lakeview Avenue and Broadway Road, the streets off Pleasant Street and Mammoth Road, and the newer subdivisions out toward Hildreth Street and East Dracut.
Dracut splits cleanly in half. Down near the Lowell line, in Collinsville and the Navy Yard, the housing is older mill village stock: two families and three deckers on small lots, wood frame, plaster inside, back stairs, and plenty of them owner occupied with the second floor rented to family. Push north and east and it turns into ranches, garrison colonials and newer subdivisions on bigger lots. Owner occupiers in the older half tend to call about two things. First the porch, because wood facing the weather here surrenders its paint every second or third winter and the rails go before the decking does. Second the exterior generally, since a three story wood building is a lot of surface and nobody wants to do it twice. Prep decides that outcome. Scrape, sand the edges flat, prime bare wood the same day so it does not drink moisture overnight, caulk the joints that are open and leave alone the ones that need to breathe. On the newer side the calls are interiors, decks and chimney crowns.
Commercial work in Dracut is small and local, which changes how it gets scheduled. The plazas and storefronts along Lakeview Avenue and Broadway Road are salons, a pizza counter, a convenience store, a dentist, a small office over a shop. Those owners are usually the ones unlocking the door in the morning, so the job has to be finished and cleared before they do it. There is no facilities department to hand a key to. We take the key or the code once, work the window, and lock up behind us. Churches, function halls and school buildings take the summer and the vacation weeks, and a hall that hosts weddings on Saturdays only has Monday through Thursday to give anybody. Landlords with two and three family buildings run the largest share of it: a unit turnover painted and cleaned before a move in date, plus the front steps and the foundation pointing that got pushed off last fall. We price the whole property in one pass instead of one line at a time.

Getting a price
Every quote for Dracut starts with somebody standing in the actual place. Square footage over the phone is a guess, and on a wall it is worse than a guess, because the failure depth only shows when you put a hand on the joint. You get the scope written out area by area and one number for the job, usually the same business day.
