Retail Cleaning Finished Before the Doors Unlock

Retail cleaning finished before the doors unlock, from the entry glass and the fitting rooms to the floor under the fixtures, scheduled tighter through the holiday run and pulled back in January.

Retail gets judged at the door. A customer pushes it open, looks down, and decides what kind of store this is before anybody says good morning. So the entry comes first: glass on both faces at hand height, the door pulls, and the mat lifted so the grit underneath comes out rather than getting swept around it. Then the floor. Aisles are easy and every vendor does them. The dust that gives a store away sits under the gondola, behind the base deck and in the corner where two fixtures meet, and that is where the vacuum and the mop have to reach. All of it happens before you unlock. Crews take early mornings or overnight, finish before staff arrive, and leave the floor dry so the first person through the door is a customer and not a bucket. Nothing on the sales floor gets moved or restacked, because your merchandising is not our call to make.

Fitting rooms are the second thing people remember, and usually for the wrong reason. Ours get swept out, the benches and hooks wiped, and the mirrors done edge to edge. Behind the register we take the counter, the pin pad and the shelf where everything collects. Volume changes through the year and the schedule should change with it, so plaza storefronts along Route 3 and Route 38 usually add visits from the week before Thanksgiving into early January, then drop back for the quiet stretch. Winter brings its own problem. Sand and road salt come in on boots and get ground into the entry tile, so the mats and the first stretch of floor get extra passes for as long as the treatments are running. If the sales floor walls need repainting overnight, or the brick and the steps out front have started to break up, that comes from us rather than from two more contractors and two more schedules.

Before

Four things we hear before we start

These four come up in nearly every walkthrough we do of retail storefronts. If any of them sound like your building, they belong in the scope.

The entry glass is covered in handprints at the exact height your customers push the door open.

Fitting rooms collect pins, tags and dust in the corners that nobody ever sweeps out.

The floor looks fine in the aisles and filthy six inches under every single fixture.

December doubles your foot traffic and the cleaning schedule stayed where it was in October.

Tell us about the property

The walkthrough is free and nobody is going to sell you anything at it. We look, we ask what has been going wrong, and we put the number and the area by area list in writing. You decide after that, in your own time.

  • We come out at no cost and with nothing to sign
  • An area by area list in writing, not a promise on the phone
  • One price per visit, never a running clock
  • A separate kit of cloths and mops for every area
  • The same crew comes back to your address
  • A few days of notice ends a home plan, no penalty
