Massachusetts Has the Widest Range of Buildings We Work On

We work the Merrimack Valley towns around the Groton base, run east into Middlesex County and Greater Boston, south through Worcester County, and out to the North Shore, with projects taken as far as the Blackstone Valley and the Connecticut River towns.

No state on this list packs more eras of building into one drive. The old mill cities on the Merrimack and the Blackstone are triple deckers and two families standing shoulder to shoulder, three floors of wood frame with porches stacked on the back and a driveway barely wide enough for a van. The towns west of Boston keep Colonial and Federal houses: plaster on wood lath, wide period trim, paneled doors and small paned sash that only a brush covers honestly. Out in the 495 belt it turns to postwar ranches and capes with drywall, plain casings and an attached garage. On the rivers the mills themselves now hold apartments and offices behind heavy timber and painted brick. The weather makes no distinction between any of them. Road salt runs from November into April and rides indoors on every boot, which is what leaves a white haze in a hardwood finish that plain water only pushes around. Water settles in a mortar joint, freezes, and opens the joint a fraction wider each cycle until the brick face starts flaking above it. Old oak in these houses has usually been sanded more than once, so there is not always enough left above the tongue to sand it again.

Groton sits in this state, which makes Massachusetts the one place where a tight arrival window is a promise we can keep. Most of the towns on our weekly routes are inside an hour of the yard, so a visit can happen on short notice, a punch item gets handled the same week, and a recurring cleaning route holds the same day every time without anybody losing half a morning to the highway. Further out the model changes, and we say which is which before a date is agreed rather than afterward. What distance never changes is how a job is put together. Five trades come out of one company, so the order is planned instead of argued between contractors: masonry and repair first, floors next, paint after that, cleaning at the end. Sanding a floor throws fine dust over every surface in the building, which is exactly why refinishing goes ahead of the painting and the cleaning and never behind them. You get one visit, a scope set down room by room, and a single number before a crew is booked. Insurance covers every job, and we check what a state asks of a contractor before taking work there.

How a Massachusetts job gets scheduled

Everything starts with somebody standing in the actual place. We are based in Groton, Massachusetts, so work close to home runs on a weekly route and a same week window. Further out the job is held as a block of days on the calendar and the walkthrough is booked with it, not on demand. You hear which one your property is before you commit to anything, and either way the scope and the number come to you in writing first.

What we work on

Houses and buildings, in every sector

What we take in Massachusetts is the same list we take at home in Groton. Property type does not narrow it, and neither does sector.

Residential

Single family houses, condos and townhouses, two and three family buildings, apartment blocks and the units inside them, rentals between tenants, new construction at handover, and second homes.

Commercial, industrial and institutional

Offices and medical suites, retail stores and restaurants, schools, daycares and places of worship, gyms, salons and clinics, warehouses, plants and light industrial space, banks and professional offices, municipal and community buildings, plus the property managers and general contractors who hold several of these at once.

Work in Massachusetts, quoted in writing.

We look at the property, agree what happens and in what order, and send the number in writing. If the distance changes what we can promise, you hear that first.
